Don't be dumb

Hey,

Okay, so I haven't written in forever, but I've decided between now and the Presidential election I'll post what I can. Also, everyone is blogging - including my mother Seriouslysheila1943.blogspot.com.

The McCain camp keeps saying that Obama is going to raise your taxes even though all financial experts acknowledge that his plan will only raise taxes on 5% of the population. Thier VP nominee keeps saying she put the Alaskan Government Plane on Ebay - implying that is where it was sold. It was not...it got one bid and they in turn sold it for a $600,000.00 loss. If you want to have fun join a facebook Group called 'First to bid when .........puts Air Force One on EBay." Oh - I've decided I will not mention the name of the Republican VP's name until that person says something of substance worthy of notation. Until then she is the nominee or part of the McCain campaign.

I have decided that any Republican that votes for McCain for President is dumb. I thought about it, I don't like calling people dumb, but they have to be dumb because this plan being proposed doesn't not agree with fundamental beliefs of Republicans. They are in favor of fiscal responsibility - there is no change in place for that. They respect experience and qualified personel...VP selection does not by any stretch of their imagination - have any of that. Deregulation of big business they belief in, but not NO Oversight. Which is what we've gotten and what the candidate of the Keating 5 is promising. There has been no energy policy in the last 8 years and the two current candidates promise nothing new - we will have the same problems as we have today.
The other reason they are dumb is their fight against the Government addressing Health Care Needs for fear of socialism but their full throated support of bailing government subsidized mortgaged companies as well as bailing out Investment banking firms...Privately held. You are dumb if you think it is okay to subsidize privately held financial institutions but are afraid to allow the government to address the Health Care issue in this country.
Also, you are dumb if you think the ability to hunt a moose is advantage for the highest office in the country but the ability to comprehend the politics of Pakistan as a draw back. Dumb.
People who believe in fiscal responsibility - when the current Republican administration has put us in the greatest deficit in our history.
People who believe in a small government are in denial of the fact that the current administration has made the government bigger than it has ever been - and in their own opinion - mostly ineffective.
If your view on Patriotism isn't effective by the use of Torture by this country - and vote for a man who has been tortured by our enemies in a time of war....and no longer thinks it is bad for our country to practice torture. Because he doesn't want to question to current President...upset the electorial base...and subject him to potential war crimes after he is out of office. That is a long run on idea, but the bottom line is people that vote for things they are against to only win the office - are dumb. And not Partiotic.

Sinerely,

Padraic

Pretty Chin, chin, chin

Hola,

Saw Labyrinth's Pretty Chin Up last night. The entire cast is doing a great job. Andrea - a very brave and full performance. And it is very impressive her commitment to rewriting the project, truly utilizing the 'development' production. The whole cast is excellent - Sidney Williams as expected subtle detailed work, Trevor looks as though he could actually have a real job - impressive, Bronwen a new comer to the company did a very good work - and a believable model. And Salvarore has an amazing presence doing great work. He looks amazing too. The surprise is Cusi Cram's joyful performance. Hope you will all check it out - performances are at 6:30.

Sam French is lining up to start. Marieke is directing with the wonderful Raymond McAnally and Beth Cole. It shold be wonderful. I have to say I'm not excited about the 'competitive' aspect of the evening - but the winning short play of the night gets published. And...I'd love the play to be published. So - hope people will come.

RONNIE'S MASK is going well in Chicago - I hear from the director. Steve Scott is directing, the associate A.D. at the Goodman - he sounds like he has a good grasp on the play. I look forward to checking it out in June. Anyone in Chicago or wanting to go to Chicago it is being done at Steppenwolfe's Performance Garage - as part of Collaboraction's Sketchbook 7. Sounds like a great party.

A LINE IN THE SAND is part of the Midtown International Play Festival - July 20 - 25. I'm very excited and hoping we get to have post show discussions with experts in the field. The play, for those who don't know, is a docudrama about the Columbine School shootings - reasearched, written, and performed by Adina Taubman. It is a very important show - hope all of you will check that out. Also, Sarah Sidman is lighting the show again.

TWO THIRDS HOME is holding auditions Tuesday and Wednesday next week. I'm thrilled to get started...and not so quietly trying to hold on to my people Didi, Justin, and Aaron. But I'm also trying not to be a pain in the ...mentioning that fact every five minutes. So...I'll keep you all posted.

Shows that need to be seen:
God's Ear - at New Georges (Ray McAnaly's play)
Rose Colored - at Shetler Studios (Janice Goldberg director)
Lipstick on a Pig - (Lexi and Christa) Need to find out where.

Yankees have a one game winning streak. It could be the start of something truly historic.

Dirty talk with you soon.

Silence Aloud

Hola,

A non-profit I worked with is being sponsored by the search engine Good Search - if you use this search engine, operated by Yahoo and designate Silence Aloud as your charity they will recieve one cent for every search.

www.goodsearch.com
Silence Aloud

Silence Aloud's mission is to remove the social stigma from of sexually abused male youth in order to help them more easily achieve the help they need.

I'm prepping for TWO THIRDS HOME. It is making me nervous because we are holding auditions. For the record I'd like to have Justin, Aaron, and Didi - but it is fair to the play and director to do auditions. So I am. None the less it makes me nervous. Almost as much as talking about my script after they have chosen to produce the play. The writing shoe is now firmly planted on my other foot. It is a little uncomfortable - but I am grateful I didn't have to wear it while running the Mother's Day 4 mile race yesterday.

That race is to become an annual event. F to M ratio about 7/1 in my estimation. That may be the ration in the 9 to 10 minute mile ratio, if that is the case I have little incentive to getting faster.

I am speaking on a panel for the SSD&C tomorrow regarding working in Festivals - what to look out for, what to expect. Drew of Broken Watch summed it all up, "don't expect to get paid much." It should be a short discussion.

Lab Master Classes are in week two - it is a very enthusiastic and talented group.

More theater must be seen this week.

Banana is just a banana

Hola,

Okay there was a great Spalding Grey Monologue - I forget which, I believe Swimming To Cambodia where he opens up with everything I'm going to tell you is true. Except the banana did not stick to the wall. We'll see if this information is important later. Maybe, who knows. So...
Had a good day as a writer again. This time...I actually wrote something besides this captivating blog. Beginning of a new play. I figure if three of my plays are going to be produced this summer - I should at least be working on something new. Because inevitably I will be asked "what are you working on now?" - I'm working on a new play it's about...I'd rather not say, it's still too new.
Been doing some Creation In Common work in NYC. It is going very well.
Happy Birthday Polly Carl - it was yesterday, but it is worth celebrating over and over again.
Asked to Dramaturg a musical for NYMF - sounds like fun.
Also, going to be an audition screener for Theater One on One. It is a networking classes for actors. Looks legitimate. I'll let you know how it goes. I like the name - I created a class called Theater One on One teaching theater thru sports. Well I like the name - and if you are looking for a theater lesson to be learned thru sports, Yankees are preparing for the fall and rise of the once and future kings. They are 16 -18. They are preparing to go on a 128 game winning streak.
NYMF - stands for New York Musical Festival.
I ran four miles
Giovanna who is directing TWO THIRDS HOME is going to a magic show in Vegas tonight. Pam Anderson is scheduled to be the Magician's assistant. I am hoping to share all the details of the show but we all know that may not happen because "what happens in Vegas..."
Oh this is an explanation for you...yes, you know who, you...
the 128 game winning streak is hyperbole - not a lie.
But I hope it sticks to the wall.

Good luck and good bowling,

Padraic

Centered

Hola,

That feeling of calm that is in the air, yes it's spring, but it is also the Yankees being back at .500. 16-16. A slow and steady start to a team riddled with injuries so early in the year. This positive swing will only get better with the Rocket's return early June, but it does make the pricetag seem ridiculous.
Had a great week producing the MFA thesis readings, and then the beginning of the Labyrinth Master Classes and a little Creation IN Common work. It called for only one thing...Golf. Only played two rounds last year - and this was the first time out this year. Shot a 39 - 4 pars, 1 birdie - I think the running has paid off in ways never imagined.

Found out Alchemy Theater is producing a play I helped developed last year, so at some point next year, probably about a year from now I will be direcing L.Pontius' UMBRELLA with Christa and Jud - looking forward to it. The play is fascinating and Alchemy does a very good job producing.

Also had a great day as a writer. Went for coffee and met playwright Rajiv Joseph, and we talked about the plays we are not writing. Then spoke with Giovanna about TWO THIRDS HOME.

Want to let everyone know A LINE IN THE SAND - Adina Taubman's play about the event at Columbine is happening starting July 20th. I recommend it to all - and hope Sarah Sidman will be available to light it again. Lea Umberger is going to help as a design consultant.

Good night and good bowling,

Padraic

Tribute

Hola,

Senor Batelli shared this lovely quote with me regarding my feelings about closing down THE DIRTY TALK website. It is quite appropriate.

"You do look, my son, in a moved sort,
As if you were dismay'd: be cheerful, sir.
Our revels now are ended. These our actors,
As I foretold you, were all spirits and
Are melted into air, into thin air:
And, like the baseless fabric of this vision,
The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Ye all which it inherit, shall dissolve
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff
As dreams are made on, and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep."

It is now Satruday morning. I am going for my first run since the N.J. Marathon last Sunday. Hope everything still works.

TWO THIRDS HOME has a director - Giovanna Sardelli. She is very nice and talented -both important to me. She comes highly recommended by Chris Burney of Second Stage and Rajiv Joseph, a very good playwright, NYU graduate - You should check out his work whenever you get a chance. And Giovanna is friends with Florencia - all things that bode well for my play. Her and Drew met yesterday and began to set dates for auditions and talk about possible designers. And now I know what it is to be a writer and feel out of the loop, which I am not. They told me everything about discussions they had that I did not have to be a part of. I believe in time this shall become fun.

Two more days of MFA Thesis Readings. Which means, four readings - 24 bottles of wine, 8 cheese plates, and ten litres of diet coke to go. The final MFA reading is at 721 Broadway, 7th Floor at 6pm on Sunday. It is by Edith Freni, who wrote BABY GIRL. Mike Batelli will be part of that reading. Feel free to stop by. If you can not make it, next time you see Edith congratulate her on her MFA.

Archives

Hola,

Okay - at the bequest of a few readers of the old website - I am archiving the posts. The best I have is all of the first page - highlights of the next five pages - and all of the last page. Enjoy your trip down memory lane, that is if your memory is full of dirty talk - which I'm sure it is.

Dirty talk with you soon.

Forwarding Address

Hola,

After my email exchanges with A Dirty Fan, Kevin 'hop along' Cristaldi, and Lea 'genius designer, wandering wonderer' Umberger I have found a spot to continue posting blogs.

The address is:

www.lillisbliss.blogspot.com

If Someone picks up THE DIRTY TALK website - I'll be back here. In the meantime - check out the new address. I'm not sure how long the blogging will be maintained because truth be told I love to blog about THE DIRTY TALK. But I'll try to keep you updated on the goings on of the creative collaborators from the productions - and maybe introduce you to some new ones.

This has been a lovely three year site. Thanks for reading and for supporting THE DIRTY TALK. Remember if you support THE DIRTY TALK - it means, and we know it is true, that you are The Sexiest People in the World.

Dirty talk with you soon.

Walk in the park

Hola,

Spoke with Cristaldi today. He needs to get knee surgery sometime soon. He explained his goal is to get to where he is capable of running the marathon with me. Not that he will run it with me - but that is capable of doing. Everyone wish Kevin the best with that. An admirable goal. I look forward to being a mental running partner with him.

Kevin also got an offer for a theater space in L.A. for THE DIRTY TALK - he is searching out a producer. Maybe he and SIdney could do it as a showcase for themselves. I hope something happens it is the greatest show and a wonderful showcase for those two brilliant actors. Also, thier understudy Aaron Weiner is back from hiking Napal.

I am producing MFA thesis readings for NYU - and Mr. Batelli what I have learned about producing can fit on a T-shirt.

"Producing means you never have to say you're welcome."

Let's all hope the Yankees pitchers get healthy along with Kevin's knee.

Bye the way Kevins says "Hi." to everyone.

Dirty talk with you soon.

NJ Marathon

Hola,

Was in New Jersey on Sunday to run my first marathon. I wasn't going to post this on THE DIRTY TALK website - because it took place in Longbranch. Gratefully no where the near the mountains of New Jersey, where THE DIRTY TALK takes place. The run was amazing. Jen O'Byrne came out for support. As did my friends Mary, Eric, and Sheldon. And my friend Marnie (dressed up as a bunny - being my pace bunny) and my friend Michael ran with me the whole way. By the way in case any of you have not done a marathon - no matter how much training, how mentally ready you are - there is no denying that 26.2 miles is long.

I was thrilled and very proud on the Thursday before when I finished my last training run. Knowing I had done the work. Much like how I felft after the final tech run of THE DIRTY TALK - the marathon itself, like the run of the play - was the icing on the cake.

Don't know what is happening with other Dirty Talkers - Batelli is meeting with a producing mentor for Spare Change. Spare Change still may take over the website. Otherwise we will be leaving on May 20th. For as interesting as I am to myself - I don't know how much news regarding THE DIRTY TALK there is to report. Although I hope it gets done all of the world - continuously.

In the meantime I will report that I have three plays I've written going up this summer. RONNIE'S MASK - as part of Collaboraction's Sketchbook 7 series running the month of June at the Steppenwolfe Performance Garage. LAKE EFFECT as part of the Samuel French short play festival - Marieke of Labyrinth fame is directing that. And TWO THIRDS HOME is starting performances at Broken Watch Theater July 21st.
Also, I am directing Adina Taubman's play A LINE IN THE SAND for the Midtown Theater Festival. I hope Sarah Sidman will do the lights again. It is an important play, a documentary play, on the shootings at Columbine - more relevant than ever with the recent shootings at Virginia Tech. I will let you know the specific dates when I have them.

One last thing to note - they give you a medal when you finish a marathon. If you see me in the next week or so, there is a chance I may still be wearing mine.

Dirty talk with you soon.

Where have you all been

Hola,

Haven't heard from you in a while. Thought I'd write to say - I was thinking about giving up the blog - and the website. I may. We will have an answer in a month. We may partner with Spare Change Productions to maintain the site. Which would be good. Especially since THE DIRTY TALK was a huge success but I have little news to report.

Sarah Sidman taught a class with me at NYU and was brilliant.

Lea designed sets & Lights for Savage In Limbo I directed - genius

Cristaldi is back in L.A. - and is having some problems with his knee, so everyone shoudl some him positive healing thoughts. Very touchy feely but he lives in L.A. and they like that stuff.

Sidney - is a handsome man - and is understudying Jack Goes Boating. Hope to see him if he goes on.

Abby - Vampire Cowboys had a very successful run of Men Of Steel.

Senor P - has an agent sending his script out, as well as, gimpy in L.A. apparently.

Me - My play TWO THIRDS HOME is being produced at Broken Watch Theater in July. Hope you'll all come. And a ten minute play of mine is being produced in Chicago by Collaboraction and being performed at the Steppenwolfe Performance Garage the month of June. I'm going - who wants to check out some theater and get deep dish pizza with me. I know Aaron, the official understudy of THE DIRTY TALK will be there.

I'll let you know if the site is going to be maintained by May 20th. In the meantime - I'm running my first marathon April 29th. And I think everyone should be proud of THE DIRTY TALK.

I wish Imus all the best.

Dirty talk with you soon.

Happy Valentines Day

Hola,

Went to see THE FEVER tonight with my good friend Charlotte - the perfect Valentine's Day date for some social revolutionary theater going. Ran into Carlo and Jocelyn who joined us for great conversation and food afterward. Good thing - because I think Carlo got Charlotte to commit twelve audience members minimum for his show in March. Everyone should check that out in March - at the Public.

Had a great day for THE DIRTY TALK - Got two phone calls requesting the script and someone who wants to get together to talk about possible life of the play. You know who you are - thanks. Hope to see you Monday or Tuesday. Also, had two women tell me they fell in love with Kevin or Lino - I'm not sure which, but it was nice to hear either way. I will pass along all contact info to Kevin - if you are attracted to Lino know that he has his own MySpace - feel free to contact him there.

Love Myspace - was only doing it to market THE DIRTY TALK but now I have over 70 friends and my feeling of isolation has disapated. Okay being sarcastic but a talented actress and friend I bumped into on the subway two years ago and gave my card to, who immediately misplaced it, found me through MySpace - so for that alone it is worth it. Hope to see you soon Chandra.

Colbert's word: Frenemy - when you are simultaneously friends and enemies with someone. Like America and Saudi Arabia. I believe Fenemy like Truthiness will go into to American Lexicon very soon.

Dirty talk with you soon.

Happy Birthday Taibi

Hola,

Last night the show closed with the most beautiful performance of the entire run. The play closed out on a high note. There was a lovely moment at the end of the play where Kevin and Sidney in character got to acknowledge how much they like working with each other. It was sweet and respectful.

Abby did a great job General Managing the show. The entire run exceeded expectations in every way but the budget - where we were a little under. All of the designers were fantastic. The show was in professional hands in every aspect. The entire last week was full of people who felt the play should run forever and that since of permanance came from the knowing they were in great hands the entire show. Jen thank you for running a beautiful show. Taking care of the boys during the run - and the quality of the show. Thank you.

It is always an honor to work with Taibi. Happy Birthday.

Congratulations Mr. Puzzo.

Thank you to everyone who saw the show and leant thier support during the run. It was really a great experience and we were glad to share it with all of you. Hope to be able to share the show with all of you again.

This is probably not the last post regarding THE DIRTY TALK - but it has to be said that whenever he enters a room from now on a glass should be raised and his name should announced in appreciation, celebration, and respect: Mike Batelli!

Dirty talk with you soon.

Groundhog's Day!

Hola,

With global warming and all how can anyone not be rooting for the groundhog to see the shadow. Six more weeks of winter - that would be a total of seven for us. I'm rooting for the shadow.

I'm also rooting for THE DIRTY TALK to continue on for the rest of 2007. We've had great audiences the last couple of weeks and tonight was equally as good. The show is getting better and better. Jen, Moira - thank you. Boys - as always - an honor.

Had a great dinner with Steve Asher and Mike Batelli. Thanks Steve for sharing thoughts how to move Spare Change forward. One idea was not to have random people show up and give money out of the blue - but that happened tonight. So we won't call it a plan, but we will say thank you for the gift angels.

Sayra Player and her lovely friends came. A joy to see them. And Charlotte my favorite New Yorker who I am going to see THE FEVER with next week. Speaking of which, thanks Oliver, Lisa, Ian - et al. for showing. Glad you got to see the play.

Martin Denton's collection of best plays of 2007 is coming out - check it out. Chad's play Nami is in the collection. I look forward to reading the others for he always put out an extraordinary collection.

Friday is upon us - which means I look forward to seeing Jeff, Stephanie, Peter - and the rest of you.

Dirty talk with you soon.

February already?

Hola,

Hey - The Year of THE DIRTY TALK is 1/12 over. It seems like it is going to last forever - but time just races by. The run at Center Stage is 3/4 over - in the last week. 4 shows remaining - You all know this. Because You've seen it. Seen it again. Made your reservations for this week. Thanks for all of the support.

Congratulations to Taibi who was granted an interview for Yale School of Drama's Grad Program in directing. An accomplishment in itself. Enjoy yourself this weekend - I know you'll have fun, and they will be thrilled to meet you.

Saw Jocelyn's show case tonight. Sorry I waited til the last night - because I could've told you all to go. It was a really good scene night with very good acting. She is a pleasure to watch. It was very tight all around. I especially loved the soundtrack.

Just letting you all know after the play on Sunday - there will be a strike at some point. But Jinn S. Kim (Pronounced Jinn S. Kim) will set up the projector in the lobby of Center Stage after the play so we can watch the end of the Super Bow - for anyone who "gives a shit about the big fucking game".

Dirty talk with you soon.
